Some remnants are – the rifle pit, a concrete foundation built over a culvert by German prisoners of war, an incinerator chimney, the concrete slab that the gate house was built on, a set of concrete ramps, and a couple of red buildings.

Where was the camp?

It covered approximately 42,000 acres in Amite and Wilkinson Counties. Today, the truck scales sit where the gatehouse was.

Why did the camp close?

It was established as an emergency, temporary camp to quickly train soldiers for war in the European Theater. There was no more need for it after the war.
