I came across your web site and enjoyed the content.

I thought you might be interested in the attached photo of my step father, William H. Rasch.

He was originally from Hudson County, NJ and trained at Camp Van Dorn where the photo was taken.

After training he crossed the Atlantic via Liberty ship. He was assigned to a Signal Corps unit in France and became involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He was about to enter a French village (sorry, I do not know the name) in his Jeep when a brave GI came out of the road side ditch and waved him to a halt. The GI, wounded and weak, was the only survivor of his squad. All of them had been killed by the Germans as they broke through and took the village. Bill Rasch helped the GI into the Jeep, turned around and skedaddled out of there. Were it not for that one GI, my life would be very different today.

Thank you for helping me remember the sacrifice of those wonderful men.
